BRING AND BUY SPRING BOOK MARKET

Saturday 3 March 2012 from 11 am to 3 pm

St Jude-on-the-Hill, Central Square, NW11 7AH

Make a note of this date in your diaries and come to St Jude’s to browse among a wide range of books and buy whatever appeals to you. Bring along your surplus books on the day and add them to the appropriate stall. Or better still, bring them to St Jude’s around 12 noon on any Sunday and put them on the table at the back of the church. Donations of CDs and DVDs will also be welcome. Let us know if you need someone to collect them from you. There will be tea, coffee, home-made soup and other refreshments.

Proceeds will go towards the St Jude’s central heating appeal fund.

New Article on Starmer

The December 2011/January 2012 edition of Stand To! The Journal of the Western Front Association has an article on Starmer by David and Judith Cohen of David Cohen Fine Art.

The War Horse Memorial

On Friday we welcomed Dutch brothers Rommert and Roelof Bakker. Rommert had come across a reference to St Jude's at the war memorial at Chipilly in France to the 58th (London) Division - many of whom fell during the Battle of Amiens in August 1918. The monument depicts an artilleryman cradling the head of his wounded horse and so is another unusual example of a memorial to fallen war horses. It is the work of French sculptor Henri Désiré Gauquié (1858-1927) whose native village of Flers was occupied by the Germans and liberated by the British army in October 1918.
